The first written history of St. Michael's by Father Francis Palanche in 1931 list 153 parish families and 86 Altar Society members. At the present time, there are 335 registered families and 92 Altar Society members.
The Altar Society members are "House Keepers of the House of God and Providers of the Requisites of Divine Worship." They decorate the Altar and Sanctuary, supply vestments, linens, and sacred vessels, which they clean and keep in good repair.
They furnish hosts, wine, flowers, and candles. Members assist the priest in any way He deems necessary to further the good of the parish.
They should also promote good fellowship and social ability in the society.
A member is recognized in February for her contributions to the organization for the previous year and is honored at a weekend mass and given a suitable remembrance for her dedication.
The Altar Society encourages you to join them in carrying out the responsibilities. You are welcome to come to meetings and contact a member about joining.
