We ask you to read it carefully and provide us with all information necessary as you prepare for the baptism of your child. Baptism is no mere social convention, but the Sacrament in which Christ Himself purifies, justifies and sanctifies (cf. 1 Peter 1:23) your child for eternal life. We rejoice with you in the birth of your child and look forward to welcoming them into the Church.
Our baptismal preparation classes our offered as needed by our Baptismal Preparation Coordinator, Deacon Leo Sharron. He can be reached by text at 361-648-1634. The class needs to be attended by both the parents and godparents. Classes taken within 3 years at another parish are acceptable, as long as proof can be shown. Godparents must be practicing Catholics, and if either party is married, their marriage must be valid within the Catholic Church. Catholics married outside the Catholic Church are not allowed to be God parents.
Additionally, all parents seeking baptism for their children must live within our parish boundaries. If you live outside our parish boundaries, a letter from your local pastor is required granting permission for the baptism to take place elsewhere.
A baptismal date and location (STM or OLG) can confirmed with parish office (361-275-3554) once all paper work is gathered (see reverse for Checklist). Baptisms are flexible but are usually celebrated after Sunday mass, 9 a.m at OLG or 11 a.m. at STM, the family is expected to attend the proceeding mass. The celebrant of the sacrament will be either Fr. Jacob, Fr. Richard, or Deacon Leo depending on scheduling and availability.
